Our EmergeOrtho | Greensboro Physical and Hand Therapy Clinic provides personalized outpatient physical, hand, occupational, spine, sports, and industrial therapy services. The diverse staff includes physical therapists, certified hand therapists, occupational therapists, physical and occupational therapist assistants, and certified athletic trainers to assist you in the recovery of your orthopedic injury or condition. EmergeOrtho’s physical and hand therapy team is knowledgeable and skilled in providing specialized care. Your individualized treatment plan may include one or more of the following treatments.

BTE (Baltimore Therapeutic Equipment)

The BTE is an interactive rehabilitation system that can replicate specific functional tasks and work simulation activities as well as objectively track progress to show improvement with each therapy session.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy can generally be described as a technique that uses cups placed over the skin to create negative pressure through suction. It is believed that the suction created by the cup encourages blood flow—and this increased circulation may promote healing and reduce pain.

Custom Splinting

Our team of hand therapists fabricate custom splints, also referred to as orthotics, for the injured hand, wrist, and elbow. The splints have different purposes, depending on the individual’s injury or surgical diagnosis. For example, splints are used to protect a broken bone, or a torn muscle. Other splints are used to improve motion at a particular joint, like improving a person’s ability to bend their fingers into a fist. One advantage of a custom orthotic is the patient may remove for showering, and in some circumstances to perform exercises with the injured hand. The patient may even choose the color of their splint, and the color of the Velcro straps which secure the splint.

Dry Needling

Dry needling is a skilled intervention used to treat trigger points or “knots” in a muscle that cause pain. Dry needling is offered only by healthcare providers, who have obtained specialized training. This is not the same as acupuncture.

Fine Motor Movements

Fine motor skills are movements that require coordination of the fingers, hands, and wrists to grab, hold and manipulate objects to complete everyday tasks such as brushing your teeth, bathing, eating, writing/drawing, and getting dressed.

Fluidotherapy

Fluidotherapy is a high-intensity heat modality consisting of a dry whirlpool of finely divided solid particles suspended in a heated air stream, the mixture having the properties of a liquid. In addition to the superficial heat, it provides tactile stimulation while also allowing for active range of motion.

Graston Technique®

Graston Technique® (GT) is a unique, evidence-based form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to improve soft tissue mobility. GT uses specially designed stainless-steel instruments to deliver an effective means of manual therapy. The use of GT instruments, when combined with appropriate therapeutic exercise, assists in the restoration of pain-free movement and function.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM).

IASTM is commonly used technique in treating soft tissue. Our therapists use different types of instruments to treat broad and specific areas of the body. Treatments of IASTM may help reduce pain caused by soft tissue adhesions and restrictions that may develop following an injury and surgery. Improved mobility and quicker recovery are anticipated outcomes of IASTM.

Kinesio Tape Application

The Kinesio Taping® Method is a therapeutic taping technique in which a clinician specifically applies Kinesio tape based on evaluation and assessment to determine the most appropriate tape application. Kinesio® Tex Tape can be applied in various ways and can help reduce pain and inflammation, promote post-surgical healing, and improve muscle performance.

Paraffin wax

Paraffin wax has many clinical uses. It can be used to ease a patient’s hand pain and help improve range of motion. Paraffin wax treatments are commonly used when caring for finger fractures, wrist fractures, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Personalized Blood Flow Restriction (PBFR)

BFR is a technique that allows a person to exercise with a significantly lighter load than usual, while still improving muscle strength and growth. A special tourniquet is used to occlude a percentage of blood flow at a personalized pressure while exercising. The pressure constantly changes and is monitored by a physical therapist. This is an excellent way to strengthen very weak or post-surgical muscles.

Work Conditioning

Work Conditioning is an individualized, goal-oriented program specifically designed to restore strength, flexibility, endurance, and movement. The goal of the program is to return patients to work and restore the ability to meet work parameters in a safe and healthy way. The program is customized for an individual’s work conditions and job responsibilities with a focus on functional activities aimed at simulating work related tasks and demands. The patient works independently, just like they would at their job, progressing toward set goals while supervised by the clinical staff. The frequency of the work conditioning program is typically 4 days per week for a period of 3-4 hours per session.
