Dr. Smith prides himself on communicating with his patients at each visit and takes an active role in working with injured patients’ physical therapists or athletic trainers.
Education and Expertise
Dr. Smith received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and then attended Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Stony Brook in New York followed by an additional year of training in arthroscopy and sports medicine at the University of Kentucky. There, he received training in treating athletes at all levels of competition. He served as the assistant team physician for the University of Kentucky Wildcats and the Kentucky State University Thorobreds.
Dr. Smith was also the assistant team physician for the 2004 National Indoor Football League (NIFL) Arena League National Championship football team, the Lexington Horsemen.
Dr. Smith treats patients of all ages, as well as athletes at all levels of competition. He has served as the team physician for Carolina Stallions semi-professional football team, North Carolina Wesleyan College, Barton College, the Wilson Tobs, and several high schools in Nash and Wilson counties. He is the Head Team Physician for the University of Mount Olive and actively provides sideline coverage for the Beddingfield High School football team.
Dr. Smith has been in practice in eastern North Carolina since 2004. His practice focuses on sports medicine, general orthopedic care for children and adults, and arthroscopic surgery. He has additional expertise in the following treatments and services:
Dr. Smith was born in Pittsboro, North Carolina and he was always active and involved in sports. His desire to become an orthopedic surgeon came experiencing several sports injuries that required surgery.
