During his undergraduate years at Davidson College in Davidson, NC, he was a varsity letterman in baseball in addition to being a premed student. He graduated magna cum laude. In 1989, also graduated cum laude from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, GA. At Emory Affiliated Hospitals, he completed both his internship and orthopedic residency. He finished his fellowship in foot and ankle surgery at the Center For Orthopedic Care in Cincinnati, Ohio with Dr. G. James Sammarco.
Since 1999, Dr. Mangone has been in private practice with Emerge Ortho. He is also an active member of several local and regional medical societies, including the AOFAS and AANA. In addition to serving as the marketing director for his 21-member orthopedic group, he is the coding committee chairman for the AOFS and the upcoming president of the North Carolina Orthopedic Society.
He founded the Ankle Instability Group, an international organization of orthopedic surgeons who are dedicated to advance treatment and research of ankle instability.
Away from the office, Dr. Mangone is an avid golfer and enjoys history and political science.
