Michael received his undergraduate degree in 1986 from East Carolina University and his master’s degree in 1990 from North Carolina State University. He spent 30 years serving as the head athletic trainer at Garner Magnet High School. Throughout his career as a certified athletic trainer Michael has received many honors and awards including being inducted into the North Carolina Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Fame 2013, the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas Hall of Fame 2014, and the Garner Magnet High School Athletics Hall of Fame 2021. Following his retirement from Garner Magnet High School, he joined EmergeOrtho in 2021 serving as a part-time outreach athletic trainer at Corinth Holders HS, South Johnston HS, and Smithfield Selma HS in Johnston County.
