Dr. Burnworth earned two undergraduate degrees — one in chemistry and one in biology — from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He received his medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and completed an internship and residency at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia, SC.
After his residency, he served his country in the United States Air Force at Eglin AFB, FL as a family medicine physician. This included two humanitarian missions to Suriname and Peru in addition to two deployments supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was award the United States Air Force Achievement Medal, and the United States Air Force Meritorious Service Medal.
