Jason Lang Departure Letter

Dear Patients,

I hope that this letter finds you in good health and spirits. I am writing to inform you personally about an important change in my professional journey that will impact my practice. On July 3, 2025, I will be leaving EmergeOrtho-Blue Ridge Region and joining an orthopedic practice in Maine. There, I will continue to see patients and perform joint replacement surgeries.

It has been a great honor to be a member of the Western North Carolina medical community since 2016. I have truly enjoyed taking care of the patients in this area and being part of your health care team.

What can you expect over the next 5 months?

  • My plan is to continue to perform elective (non-emergent) surgeries until mid-May, 2025. After that point, until my departure in early July, I will be available in the office to see and evaluate both new and established patients until my departure.
  • If you would like to proceed with surgery by me prior to mid-May, then please contact my scheduler, Becca Crowe-Banks (828-258-8800 ext. 1563) and she will work with me to get your surgery scheduled.

Once I leave, what will happen to your care? You have two options for your future orthopedic hip and knee care:

  1. Continue your care with EmergeOrtho-Blue Ridge Region. There are several joint replacement specialty-trained surgeons who will continue to provide care for the practice. If you would like a specific recommendation for a provider, contact us
    with a message through the Athena portal.
  2. You can choose to transfer your care to another doctor who is not part of EmergeOrtho-Blue Ridge Region.

As a reminder, your medical records are confidential and will remain on file with EmergeOrtho. If you choose another physician within EmergeOrtho, you do not need to take any action concerning your records. If you choose a physician outside of EmergeOrtho you will need to sign an authorization form for release of records. These forms may be found on emergeortho.com/blue-ridge-region under For Patients, then Medical Forms for Patients. You may also request a copy of your records for yourself by going to Medical Records Request on
the site.

Meet Dr. Jason E. Lang

Dr. Lang is a fellowship-trained, orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement. A native of North Carolina, Dr. Lang was born and raised in Durham. His parents were both in medicine, with his father being an orthopedic surgeon and his mother a nurse. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Johns Hopkins University before going to Duke University for medical school. Dr. Lang completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Duke Medical Center, where he earned the prestigious Chief Resident Teaching Award. He continued his training at New England Baptist Hospital as an Otto E. Aufranc Adult Reconstruction fellow, receiving extensive experience in the performance of both primary and complex revision hip and knee surgery.

Dr. Lang joined the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Wake Forest University in 2007, and spent nine years there rising to the rank of Associate Professor. During that time, Dr. Lang became the director Adult Reconstruction Section, and helped build a regionally recognized Joint Replacement program, and twice earned the Faculty Teaching Award from the resident physicians. Additionally, he served as Residency Director and Fellowship Director for Adult Reconstruction.

Dr. Lang joined EmergeOrtho, Blue Ridge Division in 2016, bringing his extensive experience in less-invasive techniques including direct anterior approach hip replacement and partial knee replacement, as well as his experience using patient specific instrumentation (PSI) and computer navigation to perform knee replacement surgeries. Dr. Lang also specializes in surgery for failed or poorly performing hip and knee replacements, known as “revision surgery”.

Dr. Lang has received several research grants and published multiple articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals. He has presented this research at regional and national orthpaedic surgery meetings. He has served as a journal reviewer for the Journal of Arthroplasty and Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research. He has worked on the abstract review committee for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) national meeting and for the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) national meeting. He is a fellow member of both the AAOS and AAHKS. Dr. Lang has been elected to membership in the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA), a selective academic Orthopaedic society.

As a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in Adult Reconstruction of the Hip and Knee, Dr. Lang addresses a variety of orthopedic conditions and injuries, which include:
