Steroid and Cortisone Injections for Effective Pain Relief
Emerge Ortho’s progressive approach to medicine means we are constantly adapting the most innovative medical techniques. Steroid and cortisone injections are one of many nonsurgical options we offer.
What is a cortisone injection?
Cortisone is a steroid that reduces inflammation. It’s injected into tissues and joints to help alleviate pain caused by swelling. This is a common treatment for conditions such as bursitis and tendinitis in addition to chronic pain related to joint stiffness, arthritis and swelling.
By pinpointing the exact area of pain and injecting a high concentration of cortisone, the medication may reach the source of inflammation quickly and bring about relief within two or three days. Side effects and associated risks of this treatment remain very minimal.
Due to the minimal side effects and relatively long lasting effect, many patients prefer cortisone injections as opposed to oral anti-inflammatory medications.
