Hip Preservation Surgery: Advanced, Efficient Care When You Need it Most

Hip Preservation is a new area of Orthopedics, aimed at addressing mechanical problems in the hip joint before they progress into more debilitating conditions. The hip specialists at EmergeOrtho include surgeons with fellowship training in this new field. Hip Preservation Specialists work with both adults and children, adopting a multifaceted approach to improve function of the hip joint.

We create a specific plan to help each individual, examining the mechanical problems that may underly their pain. Often, symptoms may be caused by:

  • Labral tears
  • Discrete injuries
  • Overuse
  • Muscle irritation

Hip Impingement (Femoroacetabular impingement or FAI)

Hip impingement occurs when patients have an abnormal shape to their “ball and socket” hip joint. As a result, the pieces of the joint do not fit together properly, damaging the hip’s internal structure, and potentially causing labral tears.

Patients with these conditions may benefit from both minimally invasive procedures such as hip arthroscopy or open procedures.”

During a minimally invasive hip arthroscopy, your surgeon utilizes a small camera to view the hip joint, eliminating the need for making large incisions. Your physician then uses images from the camera to guide small surgical instruments and use them to reshape the ball and/or socket, repair labral tears, and treat cartilage damage.

During an osteotomy , your surgeon corrects a bone deformity by cutting and then repositioning the bone.

Some of the conditions we treat include:
