Scott Q. Hannum, MD

Dr. Scott Hannum, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, practices at EmergeOrtho-Coastal Region, located at 2716 Ashton Drive in Wilmington and Brunswick Forest at 1168 East Cutlar Crossing. He is fully certified in the ROSA knee system for robotic-assisted surgery and holds surgical privileges at Novant Orthopedic Hospital in Wilmington as well as Brunswick Surgery Center in Leland.

With over twenty-six years of experience, Dr. Hannum has dedicated his career to advancing primary and revision techniques in hip and knee replacement. To date, he has successfully performed more than 12,000 arthroplasty surgeries. Throughout the past two decades, Dr. Hannum has actively participated in teaching and lecturing at prominent events, including AAOS and ICJR, and has contributed to the development of surgical instruments and implants. He has also been a primary faculty member in national and international training programs focused on the direct anterior hip approach for total hip replacement for the last twenty years.

At EmergeOrtho-Coastal Region, Dr. Hannum continuously refines surgical techniques and collaborates with numerous orthopedic companies in product development. Over the past six years, he has emerged as a leader in creating effective clinical pathways designed to optimize patient outcomes in hip and knee arthroplasty while also working to reduce costs and length of stay at Novant Orthopedic Specialty Hospital and Brunswick Surgery Center, our esteemed outpatient facility.

Established in 2019, Brunswick Surgery Center is a physician-owned outpatient facility with four operating rooms that performed 4,400 surgeries in 2025. As an owner, president, and medical director since its inception, Dr. Hannum takes immense pride in founding this Ambulatory Surgery Center, which has become one of the leading orthopedic outpatient facilities in North Carolina. In 2023, DNV recognized it as the first ASC in the nation to receive certification of excellence in all four areas of outpatient orthopedics. The center is renowned for its exceptional patient care and outstanding surgical results.

Dr. Hannum graduated from The Ohio State University and obtained his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo, Ohio. He completed his orthopedic residency at Summa Health Systems in Akron, Ohio, followed by a fellowship in Total Joint Replacement at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.

Dr. Hannum is affiliated and performs inpatient and outpatient surgery at Novant Health Orthopedic Hospital. He is an owner in the Brunswick Surgery Center, LLC where he performs outpatient surgery.
