Dr. Lucas Romine is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in the shoulder. As a member of EmergOrtho—Triangle Region’s Shoulder Team, Dr. Romine performs a variety of innovative, minimally-invasive shoulder and elbow treatments as well as surgical procedures.

Dr. Romine’s patients are often appreciative and impressed with his caring and attentive bedside manner. His compassion and empathy, combined with his knowledge of various non-operative treatment options, make him a sought-after expert in the musculoskeletal system. His professional philosophy is to treat every patient as a member of his own family.

Education and Expertise

Dr. Romine played basketball in college on a full athletic scholarship and was named an Academic All-American. Subsequently, he graduated from medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and then completed residency training in Orthopedic Surgery. In his career, he has been granted several awards and has presented orthopedic research at national and international conferences, including the Chinese Orthopedic Association Congress in Beijing and the European Federation of Orthopedics and Traumatology in Berlin, Germany. His research has been published in several peer-reviewed Orthopedic journals.

Prior to joining EmergeOrtho in 2014, Dr. Romine was a faculty member for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. There, he gained advanced experience in modern, innovative surgical techniques for treatment of complex pathology involving both the shoulder and elbow, including shoulder replacement. While in Baltimore, he also provided medical treatment for elite athletes as a team physician for the Baltimore Orioles.

He was recently elected chief of surgery at UNC-Johnston Health.
