Kelsey McGinn is a certified athletic trainer who joined our EmergeOrtho Triad Region team in 2021. Kelsey’s primary responsibility at EmergeOrtho is to serve as the Head Athletic Trainer at Grimsley High School. Kelsey and Dr. Jason Rogers work together to provide comprehensive sports medicine services. They collaborate, working directly with the student-athletes, parents, coaching staff, and administration with the best interest of each student-athlete in mind.

While playing collegiate softball at Guilford College, Kelsey earned a double major in Exercise Sport Science and Health Sciences. During her softball career, she underwent multiple orthopedic surgeries. Her athletic trainer was instrumental in her recovery. This led Kelsey to pursue a career in profession of athletic training.

After graduating from Guilford College, she continued her studies at Lenoir-Rhyne University, where she majored in Athletic Training. Kelsey’s clinical rotations included a variety of niche settings within the profession of athletic training. By caring for a diverse population of athletes in fast-paced settings such as DII football to NASCAR pit crews, Kelsey narrowed down her chosen setting to the secondary school. “From first-hand experience, I can sympathize with the need to be part of a team. I am grateful to be a part of a student-athlete’s experience in returning to play after an injury” says Kelsey.

Following the completion of her Degree of Master of Science in Athletic Training, Kelsey launched the sports medicine program at North Wilkes High School (NWHS) in Wilkes County, NC as their first Athletic Trainer. At NWHS, she provided athletic training services to the student-athletes while developing and maintaining positive relationships with coaches, parents, student-athletes, administration, and physicians she worked alongside.

As the Head Athletic Trainer at Grimsley High School, Kelsey strives to provide preventative care, injury & illness evaluations, as well as treatment & rehabilitation of emergent, acute, and chronic medical conditions. She provides concussion and injury recognition followed by education to coaches, parents, and student-athletes to ensure injury risk is minimized and her patients are provided appropriate medical care. Kelsey is outgoing, organized, and passionate about her role and responsibilities as an athletic trainer. Go Whirlies!
