Joseph Massaglia Jr., DO, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at EmergeOrtho-Triangle Region. He joined the other orthopedic foot and ankle surgeons at EmergeOrtho as a specialist in musculoskeletal conditions and injuries of the lower leg. He sees patients at the Clayton and Smithfield locations.
Dr. Massaglia works with his patients to make informed treatment decisions together. His goal is to improve each patient’s quality of life through treatment plans that meet their unique needs, goals, and lifestyles. When conservative measures fail, Dr. Massaglia offers a range of surgeries, including open, minimally invasive, and arthroscopic procedures. He performs total ankle replacement for patients with severe ankle arthritis.
Education and Expertise
Dr. Massaglia graduated from the University of Delaware with honors and completed medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Jefferson Health New Jersey. Dr. Massaglia became a specialist in foot and ankle surgery by completing a fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston.
Dr. Massaglia belongs to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society (AOFAS). During his surgical training, he was an AOFAS resident scholar. He has published articles in Foot and Ankle International, Foot & Ankle Specialist, the Journal of Arthroplasty, and the Journal of Wrist Surgery.
