As a highly experienced physician and surgeon for the EmergeOrtho—Triangle Region Sports Medicine Team, Dr. John Solic specializes in the shoulder, knee, and sports-related injuries. He is known for encouraging fitness and a rapid return to sports and physical activity as his primary treatment philosophy. He performs minimally invasive, advanced arthroscopic procedures of the knee and shoulder to allow his patients to return to activity as soon as possible.

Education and Expertise

Dr. Solic is a native of State College, Pennsylvania. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Princeton University, where he played football. After attending medical school at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, he completed his orthopedic surgery training at Duke University Medical Center.

Prior to joining EmergeOrtho, Dr. Solic completed a shoulder and sports medicine fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, ranked by U.S. News as the top orthopedic hospital in the United States. During his fellowship, Dr. Solic gained extensive experience in the treatment of patients of all skill levels, from recreational to professional athletes from the NFL, NBA, and Major League Baseball. He also served as an assistant-team physician for the Brooklyn Nets and for Iona College.

As a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, Dr. Solic addresses a variety of shoulder injuries and conditions which include:

  • Shoulder pain
  • Shoulder surgeon
  • Rotator cuff tear
  • Labrum tear
  • Biceps tendonitis
  • Meniscus tear

Dr. Solic utilizes sophisticated, minimally-invasive, patient-centered approaches to treat the conditions listed above, as well as multiple other sports-related injuries (including the elbow and knee). Examples of treatment methods and services provided by Dr. Solic include:

Dr. Solic is currently a member of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the International Cartilage Repair Society, and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons.

When he is not seeing patients and performing surgery, Dr. Solic enjoys being an active athlete himself. His favorite physical activities include running, lifting weights, and golfing. He lives in the Triangle area with his wife Samantha and sons Colin, Tate, and Miles.
