Dr. Jimmy Mali is a fellowship-trained, board-certified interventional pain management physician for the EmergeOrtho—Triangle Region Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Interventional Pain Management teams. He provides diagnosis and treatment of common and complex painful musculoskeletal conditions. And, he specializes in image-guided musculoskeletal and interventional spine injections with the use of ultrasound and fluoroscopy.

Dr. Mali is dedicated to responsible, compassionate, and patient-centered pain care. He has been published in textbooks, medical journals, and continues to contribute to the field of interventional pain medicine. He is focused on the treatment of pain and improving the quality of life and function for his patients through medical, interventional, alternative, and regenerative therapies.

Education and Expertise

Dr. Mali attended West Virginia University for his undergraduate education, where he was granted the honor of Eberly Scholar for his academic achievements and graduated magna cum laude. He continued his education at West Virginia University, where he completed his medical school training.

He underwent his physical medicine and rehabilitation training at East Carolina University and served as chief resident. During his time at East Carolina University, Dr. Mali earned the Resident Teacher of the Year Award for his passion and dedication to the education of medical students.

After residency, Dr. Mali completed an Accredited Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) interventional pain fellowship at the University of Alabama Birmingham through the Department of Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology.

Following his fellowship, Dr. Mali was recruited by the Department of Defense secondary to his background in physical medicine and rehabilitation as well as interventional pain management. He went on to become chief of the Interdisciplinary Pain Clinic at Womack Army Medical Center.

As chief of the pain clinic, Dr. Mali implemented a multidisciplinary team approach to pain conditions including acupuncture, pain psychology, physical therapy, chiropractic, and interventional pain care to treat spine and pain disorders. During this time, he was involved in clinical research with spinal cord stimulation and radiofrequency ablation. He also served as adjunct faculty at the University Of North Carolina School Of Medicine.
