Dr. Jansen is a board-certified, Sports Medicine fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in evaluation and management of soft tissue injury of the shoulder, elbow and knee, as well as comprehensive and complex reconstructive knee surgery. He has been the team physician for UNC Asheville and Mars Hill University for 24 years and has provided care for numerous other high schools, college, and professional organizations during his tenure in Asheville. Dr. Jansen has a highly academic approach to Orthopedic Surgery and relies on scientific data and evidence-based studies to guide patients in the decision-making process.

Dr. Jansen earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He earned additional honors (Alpha Omega Alpha) when he graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, IN. He completed his residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA. He completed a fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama.

Dr. Jansen is a sports medicine fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at EmergeOrtho. He serves as the team physician for several local colleges and high schools. These include:

  • Asheville Buncombe Youth Soccer

He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery and the American Orthopedic Sports Medicine Society. He’s a member of the American Sports Medicine Institute Fellowship Society.
