Dr. David Dellaero brings a variety of skills and extensive experience to the Sports Medicine, Shoulder, and Knee Teams for the EmergeOrtho—Triangle Region. In addition to providing Sports Medicine support as the team physician for the Durham Bulls, Dr. Dellaero addresses a wide range of orthopedic conditions and sports injuries for local patients.

Education and Expertise

Dr. Dellaero is a graduate of Duke University. He earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and completed his orthopedic surgery training at Duke University Medical Center. In addition, Dr. Dellaero has undergone additional fellowship training and research in sports medicine/arthroscopy as well as knee and shoulder reconstructive surgery at the world-renowned Hughston Sports Medicine Foundation. He holds a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Sports Medicine* (fewer than 600 surgeons in the country have a sports medicine CAQ).

Dr. Dellaero is also a team physician for the Durham Bulls Baseball Team. He is a fellow of the Arthroscopy Association of North America (FAANA)* and a member of the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, and Orthopedic Sports Medicine, and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and has been practicing since 1997.

*CAQ Sports Medicine: The American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, in conjunction with the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, offers a certificate of added qualification for “those surgeons who have demonstrated qualifications beyond those expected of other orthopedic surgeons by virtue of additional education, a practice characterized by a majority of cases in orthopedic sports medicine, and contributions to this field of medicine.” It is granted to orthopedic surgeons who are approved to take and who pass a subspecialty examination in sports medicine. Fewer than 600 surgeons hold the sports CAQ nationally.
