Calvin Blocker, MD, MBA

Dr. Calvin Blocker is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician with the EmergeOrtho-Triangle Region team in Durham, NC. As a specialist in neuromuscular and musculoskeletal conditions, he diagnoses and treats various painful issues, including acute and chronic joint or muscle pain, neuropathic pain, peripheral nerve impingements (such as carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel syndrome), spasticity, and general weakness.

Dr. Blocker employs a range of multimodal treatments, including oral medications, injections, and other therapeutic modalities. Although he is not fellowship trained, he is skilled in performing image-guided musculoskeletal and lumbar interventional spine injections using ultrasound and fluoroscopy.

Education and Expertise

Dr. Calvin Blocker received a Bachelor of Arts in Exercise and Sport Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he studied from August 2005 to August 2009. This degree provided him with a solid foundation in the principles of physical fitness and rehabilitation.

Before embarking on his medical career, Dr. Blocker proudly served in the United States Army. He attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia, from July to October 2011, where he earned the rank of Commissioned Officer. He then completed the Basic Officer Leadership Course at Fort Leonardwood, Missouri, attending the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Warfare and Defense Officer Course from February to June 2012. His time in the military honed his leadership abilities and reinforced his commitment to serving others.

In 2016, Dr. Blocker gained admission to the esteemed University of North Carolina School of Medicine, where he acquired a Doctor of Medicine degree. In addition to his medical degree, he also earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This unique combination of medical and administrative expertise has positioned Dr. Blocker to make significant contributions to the field of medicine, equipping him with the skills necessary for effective leadership and management in the evolving healthcare landscape.

In 2021, Dr. Blocker moved to Greenville, North Carolina, to complete his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine. His residency training extends from July 2021 to June 2025.
