As the Director of the Orthobiologics Center for EmergeOrtho—Triangle Region, Dr. Benjamin Petty provides patients with diverse regenerative medicine treatments. These innovative options can be utilized to promote healing to address a variety of orthopedic injuries and conditions. Dr. Petty is also board-certified in family medicine and sports medicine, with extensive experience as a team physician for numerous collegiate and high school sports teams, as well as NBA athletes.

Education and Expertise

Dr. Petty earned his undergraduate degree at North Carolina State University where he played Division I basketball for the North Carolina State Wolfpack. He completed medical school at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, and went on to complete a family medicine residency at the University of South Alabama, followed by a sports medicine fellowship at the renowned Campbell Clinic in Memphis. He obtained additional training at the Mayo Clinic and The Orthobiologic Institute.

Dr. Petty is credentialed in the management of sports concussions and is a Certified ImPACT consultant for the management and neurocognitive testing of athletes. He co-authored an article on the Sideline Management of Concussions in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinics of American Clinical Review Articles. Dr. Petty is a member of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, Exercise is Medicine, and the American Academy of Family Medicine. He is board-certified in family medicine and sports medicine.

He has served as team physician for multiple high schools and college teams, having worked with the professional athletes of the NBA Memphis Grizzlies and the Memphis Redbirds. Dr. Petty’s extensive medical sports coverage includes the Country Music Marathon, St. Jude Marathon, The Memphis Open, and many other sporting events. Dr. Petty currently serves as the team physician for Voyager Academy and is an Adjunct Faculty Member for Campbell University Sports Medicine Fellowship.

Dr. Petty is from Winston-Salem, NC, and is married to Dr. Tiffany Petty, who is a practicing North Carolina pediatrician. He likes to spend time with his two sons and is involved in community activities along with playing basketball, running 5K races, and watching sports.
