EmergeOrtho is looking forward to serving as a clinical site in its first partnership with UNC-Pembroke.  Together with North Carolina Specialty Hospital, EmergeOrtho will provide hands-on experience for undergraduate and graduate students in the UNC-P Department of Nursing, as well as pre-Hand Therapy and pre-Physical Therapy students.

Why are clinical rotations important?

“As a former surgeon, I can attest to the importance of clinical rotations in successfully preparing students for careers in healthcare,” said UNC Pembroke Chancellor Robin Gary Cummings. “UNCP is grateful to the service-oriented leaders at EmergeOrtho for partnering with us to provide our students with invaluable hands-on experiences.”

As a multi-specialty practice, EmergeOrtho is offering clinical rotations, observations and research opportunities.

“The Department of Nursing is excited to work with EmergOrtho and NC Specialty Hospital in order to offer our students unique clinical experiences,” says Jennifer Twaddell, Phd, MSN, RN, Director of Graduate Programs and RIBN Collaborative Coordinator.  ”The opportunities provided by this collaboration are multidisciplinary and based in current research practices. Our students will truly benefit from this partnership.”

The EmergeOrtho General Surgery Specialists will be working closely with these students, and Dr. Phillip Shadduck arranged a recent site visit.

“We are looking forward to helping the UNCP School of Nursing students by providing a great clinical site for their undergraduate student rotations, graduate student rotations, and mentoring at EmergeOrtho and NCSH,” says Dr. Shadduck.

Clinical Partnership Program Launches Fall 2017

The goal is to begin in the upcoming Fall, with the 2017-2018 academic year.

“As Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, I’m committed to every avenue that helps our students be market-ready for the challenges of being a working nurse,” says Dr. Jeff Frederick, Ph.D.   “Collaborating with EmergeOrtho will be invaluable for our students in both our undergraduate and graduate programs. We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial partnership.”
