The article discusses changes in healthcare industry rules and regulations that threaten the private-practice model, and the collaborative effort to create EmergeOrtho. As Dr. Dimmig explains in the publication, “this is all about quality for the patient. Obviously, we want to be independent and successful. But, for us, the end game is to provide a product that is accessible to the patient that has high quality and good outcomes for a cost that is understandable to them. Bringing consumerism back to medicine is important to us.”
And further, “The independent physicians in our system provide care at a lesser cost than hospitals or health systems are able to provide. We do not bill facility fees or HOPD (Hospital Outpatient Department). Therefore, costs of care in the independent world are often lower than if you are going to see a hospital employed physician in general.”
