International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate the progress and accomplishments of women in every field. This year, we want to recognize the women in healthcare, specifically in orthopedic medicine, who bring their unique perspectives and contributions. At EmergeOrtho, we are committed to #embraceequity, and we recognize the importance of having a diverse group of healthcare providers to provide the best possible care to our patients.
While orthopedic medicine has traditionally been male-dominated, we see more women taking on leadership roles and significantly contributing to the field. According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, women make up only 6% of practicing orthopedic surgeons in the United States. However, this number is slowly increasing, with the percentage of female orthopedic residents rising from 14% in 2015 to 18% in 2020.
At EmergeOrtho, we are proud to have several talented and dedicated women on our medical team including orthopedic surgeons, general surgeons, pediatric and primary care sports medicine, and interventional pain management specialists. All are passionate about providing individualized care to their patients and helping them return to the activities they love.

These women are critical in ensuring our patients receive the highest quality care and services possible.
As we celebrate International Women’s Day, it is essential to acknowledge women’s contributions to healthcare, especially in orthopedic medicine. Women in healthcare significantly contribute to patient care, provide advanced care to patients, and play an integral leadership role. EmergeOrtho is proud to have several talented and dedicated women on our team, including our CEO Allison Farmer. We are committed to supporting and encouraging women in orthopedic medicine and #embraceequity in every aspect of our organization.
