Meet Scott Playford, MD, MBA
Athletes of all kinds and parents of youth athletes should be pumped to hear this news: Beginning July 5, 2017, Fellowship-Trained Sports Medicine Specialist with expertise in ImPACT concussion care Scott Playford, MD, MBA, will begin seeing patients in EmergeOrtho’s Jacksonville office.
Dr. Playford is board-certified in family medicine, fellowship-trained with a Certificate of Added Qualifications in sports medicine, and designated as a concussion management consultant. He was also a physician in the U.S. Navy.
Where is Dr. Playford from?
A native of Anderson, SC, Dr. Playford is a graduate of the College of Charleston and the Medical University of South Carolina, both in Charleston, SC. He completed his family medicine internship and residency at Anderson Area Medical Center in Anderson, SC, and a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD.
Dr. Playford is One out of only 14 Credentialed ImPACT Consultant (CIC) providers for concussion care in NC
At EmergeOrtho, Dr. Playford will treat patients of all ages for sports, overuse and work injuries, including but not limited to the back, shoulder, hip, knee and ankle. He is also designated as a Credentialed ImPACT Consultant for concussion care, one of only 14 CIC providers in North Carolina and the only CIC physician east of I-95, according to ImPACT.
In addition to his medical education, Dr. Playford earned a Master of Business Administration at East Carolina University.
What Else Does Dr. Playford Like to Do?
Dr. Playford is also known for his caring, listening approach, and his expertise in the athletic community. He is an active leader in local athletics as a member of the NC Boxing Commission and the Jacksonville-Onslow Sports Commission, serving as a physician for USA Boxing, as well as a consultant and team physician with Onslow County Schools.
EmergeOrtho is excited to add Dr. Playford’s wide range of expertise to our sports medicine team and the Jacksonville office, adding an extra measure of comfort and convenience for many residents and athletes. He will also be seeing patients in our newest AccessOrtho clinic, the area’s only orthopedic urgent care designed to make patient care even more accessible and convenient for orthopedic patients. This third AccessOrtho location will open July 5, 2017.
